Sources: Rotherham United open talks to sign Huddersfield Town star Jon Russell
Rotherham United are in talks to sign Huddersfield Town midfielder Jon Russell, sources have told Football Insider.
The 22-year-old has slipped well down the pecking order at Huddersfield and Rotherham United are aiming to strike a loan deal with their Championship rivals.
The two clubs remain locked in negotiations as they look to reach a loan agreement before next week’s transfer deadline.

Russell has made just eight appearances in all competitions for the Terriers so far this season, with his last outing coming way back in October.
He started the campaign as a regular, featuring in six of Huddersfield’s first seven league fixtures, but Mark Fotheringham has preferred to rotate his midfield between Etienne Camara, Jonathan Hogg and David Kasumu since taking over as manager.
Born in west London, Russell spent 13 years of his youth in the Chelsea academy, where he worked his way through the ranks to the first team in 2020.
However, Russell was never given a senior appearance by the Blues and was loaned out to Accrington Stanley in the 2020/21 season.
An impressive 25 appearances and two goals followed during his loan spell, which encouraged then-Huddersfield boss Carlos Corberan to sign him permanently from Chelsea in July 2021.

Russell struggled for first-team opportunities at first but ended the 2021/22 campaign having played every minute of the last 15 Championship games.
But Russell has not been favoured by either Danny Schofield or Fotheringham since, and has seen his role in the squad been limited to a substitute.
