Sources: Roy Hodgson could leave Crystal Palace soon

Veteran manager Roy Hodgson could leave Crystal Palace within weeks, sources have told Football Insider.

The 76-year-old was rewarded with a one-year contract at Selhurst Park in the summer after saving the Eagles from relegation at the end of last season.

But it is believed that there could now be a parting of the ways between Hodgson and the club – just under halfway into that contract.

The experienced manager is not expected to be sacked by Palace, but there is a growing likelihood of him leaving by mutual consent.

Sources have told Football Insider that Hodgson’s second spell at Selhurst Park is coming towards what the manager and club chiefs believe is a natural end.

Crystal Palace have won just one of their last seven Premier League games following the 2-0 loss against Bournemouth on Wednesday (6 December) – and now sit 14th in the table.

The Eagles were also dumped out of the League Cup at the third round stage by Man United.

Hodgson succeeded Patrick Vieira to return to the club in late March with the club sitting just three points above the drop zone.

Vieira had managed to go 12 games without a win, but the ex-England boss won five of 10 games at the end of the 2022-23 campaign to secure survival.

He has won 64 of his 188 total games in charge at his boyhood club.

The south London outfit are currently struggling with two key injuries, with Cheick Doucoure expected to miss the rest of the season and Eberechi Eze out with yet another issue.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (5 December) that Crystal Palace are set to scrap January plans to sign a striker and will instead look to bolster their central midfield options.
