Sources: Ruben Neves makes up mind to quit Wolves
Ruben Neves is ready to quit Wolves this summer even if the Midlands club avoid relegation to the Championship, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed an exit for the 26-year-old is becoming more and more likely as the midfielder wants a new challenge at the highest level possible.
Wolves have held recent contract talks with Neves as his current deal is set to expire in June 2024.
But negotiations have not progressed as expected and the Portugal international is now expected to move on at the end of this season.
Neves, who has been a mainstay in the Wolves side since joining the club in the Championship back in 2017, earns a reported wage of £50,000-a-week at Molineux.
He was made the club captain following Conor Coady’s loan departure to Everton last summer (2022).
The former Porto star has turned out 32 times across all competitions as a regular starter for Wolves this season, scoring five goals.
He has turned out 244 times in total for the Midlands club and was a key part of the side that reached the Europa League quarter-final in the 2019-20 campaign.
Wolves have experienced a downturn since then and remain in danger of suffering relegation this season despite an uptick in form under new boss Julen Lopetegui.
They sit 13th in the Premier League but have a lead of just four points over 18th-place West Ham.
Lopetegui’s side also have one of the worst goal-difference figures in the top flight.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday (19 March) that Liverpool are favourites to sign Neves’ midfield partner Matheus Nunes this summer.
Wolves are next in action against Nottingham Forest on 1 April – following the international break.
