Sources: Sheffield United make move to sign Leicester City star Harry Souttar

Sheffield United have made a last-gasp enquiry for Leicester City defender Harry Souttar, sources have told Football Insider.

The Blades are keen to bring in a new defender before the transfer window closes on Thursday (1 February).

Chris Wilder’s side have now made contact with Championship leaders Leicester about a potential deal for Souttar, 25.

The Australia international has featured sparingly for Enzo Maresca’s side so far in the 2023-24 campaign.

He has played just four times totalling 188 minutes of football this term and is now away with the Socceroos at the Asia Cup.

Souttar has played 90 minutes in each of Australia’s four games at the tournament this month and scored in the 4-0 defeat of Indonesia on Sunday (28 January).

The giant centre-back only joined Leicester 12 months ago but was relegated with the Foxes just months later.

He turned out 12 times in the Premier League in the 2022-23 campaign, his only taste of top-flight football.

Souttar has also had spells at Stoke City, Fleetwood Town, Ross County and Dundee United.

His contract at the King Power Stadium is set to run until June 2028.

Sheffield United sit bottom of the Premier League and are now nine points from safety following their 3-2 defeat against Crystal Palace on Tuesday (30 January).

Football Insider revealed on 23 January that the Blades have also registered their interest in signing Everton and Nottingham Forest centre-backs Mason Holgate and Joe Worrall this month.
