Sources: Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic in race to sign Tyrese Owen
Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton Athletic and Bradford are plotting moves for non-league sensation Tyrese Owen, sources have told Football Insider.
The midfielder, 23, has caught the eye of clubs higher up the football pyramid after impressing for Isthmian League Premier Division outfit Kingstonian FC.
Owen, who has scored 10 goals in all competitions so far this season, is available for free as he is on non-contract terms at Kingstonian.
The 6ft 6in giant had a week on trial at Huddersfield earlier this month.
League One duo Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton, and League Two promotion hopefuls Bradford, have registered their interest in Owen ahead of the new year.
The 23-year-old can play in defence as well as in midfield.
He has turned out for a number of non-league sides, including Hemel Hempstead Town, Haringey Borough, Potters Bar, and Carshalton Athletic – as well as experiencing a spell in Sweden with Ytterhogdals IK.
Owen’s goals have helped Kingstonian keep their head above water in the Isthmian League Premier Division – the seventh tier of English football.
Promotion-chasing Sheffield Wednesday are searching for another midfielder to bolster their ranks despite swooping for Will Vaulks and Tyreeq Bakinson in the summer window.
The Owls sit third in League One, while Charlton sit 18th having sacked manager Ben Garner last week.
League Two Bradford may represent a quicker route to first-team football for Owen, with manager Mark Hughes searching for reinforcements to aid his play-off push in the second half of this season.
