Sources: Significant update on Ryan Kent’s future after Rangers board talks

Rangers face having to cash in on Ryan Kent this summer if he continues to resist attempts to secure him to a new contract, Football Insider understands.

The winger, 25, oped to stay at Ibrox this season after interest from Leeds United last summer but held back from signing an extension to his deal.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider the club’s board have agreed to offer Kent a lucrative new agreement following internal talks.

But they are likely to listen to offers if the former Liverpool star knocks them back.

His current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2023.

Football Insider exclusively revealed in September 2020 that Kent has a £20million release clause in his current contract.

But Rangers would likely have to sell for below that figure if the wide man refuses to sign a new contract ahead of the summer.

The upcoming window represents a last opportunity to secure a huge fee for one of the club’s outstanding players.

Rangers showed in January they will not let their prize assets go cheaply and negotiated a £12m fee rising to a potential £16m with Everton for Nathan Patterson.

Unlike the right-back, Kent is a mainstay of the Rangers starting XI and has proved himself in the Europa League during the club’s great success in the competition in recent years.

Kent has developed into one of the outstanding players in the Scottish league during his four seasons at Rangers.

He has made 35 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and providing an impressive 15 assists.

The Liverpool academy product has saved his best performances for Europe, and delivered outstanding displays in the knockout stages against Borussia Dortmund and Red Star.

In other news, Rangers will listen to offers for 25-year-old international this summer after decision made.
