Sources: Southampton agree personal terms with Kamaldeen Sulemana as talks advance

Southampton are in advanced talks to sign Stade Rennais forward Kamaldeen Sulemana, sources have told Football Insider.

The Saints have submitted a £17.5million bid for the versatile forward, 20, and are closing in on an agreement.

It is believed that personal terms have already been agreed between Southampton and Sulemana, with the player keen on a Premier League move.

Southampton have made it a priority to bring in an attacker after already completing three new signings this month.

Winger Mislav Orsic joined from Dinamo Zagreb, followed by midfielder Carlos Alcaraz from Racing Club and full-back James Bree from Nathan Jones’ old club Luton Town.

Jan Bednarek has also returned from his loan spell at Aston Villa to increase their options in defence.

Sulemana has made 14 appearances in Ligue 1 this season but only two of those have been starts.

He has scored one goal in those outings.

The attacker joined Rennes from Nordsjælland in July 2021 and became the Danish league’s record export.

He made 20 appearances during his debut season in Ligue 1 and scored five goals in all competitions.

Southampton remain bottom of the Premier League after losing 1-0 to Aston Villa in their last Premier League outing (21 January).

The Saints are next in league action against Brentford on Saturday (4 February).

Before that, Jones’ side face the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle United on Tuesday (31 January).
