Sources: Southampton star Ryan Finnigan in advanced talks to join new club – deal set to be terminated

Southampton midfielder Ryan Finnigan is in advanced talks with Blackpool over a loan move, sources have told Football Insider.

Finnigan has spent the first half of the 2023-24 campaign on loan with Shrewsbury Town.

The 20-year-old is set to cancel that deal to join Blackpool if an agreement can be reached.

He has spent the majority of this season out with an ankle injury he sustained in training just weeks after making the move to Shrewsbury.

Finnigan underwent surgery to correct the problem and returned to Southampton for rehabilitation, but it is believed he is now nearing full fitness.

The midfielder made three appearances before the injury, starting on all three occasions.

He spent the second half of the 2022-23 campaign on loan in League Two with Crewe Alexandra, making 16 appearances and notching one goal.

Finnigan has made one senior appearance for Southampton, coming off the bench for a one-minute cameo against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup back in 2021.

The 20-year-old has been with the Saints since the age of nine.

Blackpool require midfield reinforcements as they push for a playoff berth in the second half of this season.
