Sources: Southampton would accept £15m Burnley bid for Tella
Burnley would love to sign Southampton winger Nathan Tella permanently following his successful loan at the club last season, sources have told Football Insider.
However, the Saints are believed to be in the box seat in negotiations for the 23-year-old – who still has two years left to run on his contract on the south coast.
Southampton have slapped a £15million price tag on Tella’s head – a fee which well-placed sources have revealed could be “too rich” for Burnley this summer.
Russell Martin has recently been appointed the new manager at St Mary’s Stadium.
He is set to run the rule over his squad when players return for pre-season training this week ahead of their Championship season opener against Sheffield Wednesday on 4 August.
Tella spent last season on loan at Burnley as they gained promotion from the second tier as champions.
The Stevenage-born ace notched 19 goals and five assists in 45 appearances for the Clarets across all competitions.
He played in various roles for Vincent Kompany’s side, including on both wings and in a centre-forward berth.
Burnley are keen to make Tella a permanent arrival at Turf Moor but will have to spend a big portion of their summer war chest to make a deal a reality.
The right-footer managed one goal and two assists in 33 Premier League appearances for Southampton – most of which came as a substitute.
Southampton will play in the Championship in the 2023-24 campaign following their 20th-place Premier League finish last term.

Burnley have already completed deals for Jordan Beyer, Dara O’Shea and Michael Obafemi after their return to the top flight.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (27 June) that Millwall have rejected two bids from the Premier League newcomers for attacker Zian Flemming.
