Sources: Stevenage agree to sign Aberdeen midfielder Dean Campbell on loan

Aberdeen midfielder Dean Campbell has agreed to join Stevenage on loan, Football Insider understands.

The 21-year-old is not part of the first team picture at Pittodrie ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that a number of clubs have shown an interest in signing Campbell but Stevenage have won the race for his signature.

The centre-midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Kilmarnock and helped them gain promotion back to the Scottish Premiership.

He made eight appearances for Derek McInnes’ side of which six were starts.

A move to League Two side Stevenage will allow Campbell to continue his development by playing regular football.

His contract with Aberdeen runs until the end of May 2023.

Campbell has made 75 appearances for the Dons since his debut against Celtic at the back end of 2017.

The young midfielder is a product of Aberdeen’s academy and was born in the area.

He has been capped for Scotland at various age groups but is yet to get a senior call up.

Stevenage are looking to bolster their squad after narrowly avoiding relegation in the 2021-22 campaign.

The League Two club finished 21st in the table, three points above the drop zone.

Campbell is set to join countryman Steve Evans at Stevenage.

Evans was appointed Boro’s manager in mid-March following the dismissal of Paul Tisdale.
