Sources: Sunderland to announce Roberts signing from Man City after medical passed

Sunderland will announce the loan signing of Man City star Patrick Roberts on Friday afternoon, Football Insider has learned.

This site broke the news last on 31 December that the League One outfit had agreed a deal for the 24-year-old winger.

Now a Sunderland source has updated to tell Football Insider that Roberts has completed a medical and the deal has been finalised.

His season-long loan deal with French club Troyes has terminated and he is free to sign a temporary deal with the north-east outfit.

The 24-year-old managed just two appearances across all competition for Troyes, including just one in the league.

He spent last season on loan in the Championship with Middlesbrough and Derby County.

The former England youth international has over 50 games under his belt in England’s second-tier but is yet to play in League One.

Roberts broke onto the scene with Fulham in 2014 before moving to Man City a year later but he managed just three appearances with the Cityzens.

Sunderland have already bolstered their promotion charge this month with the arrival of Danny Batth from Stoke City.
