Sources: Swansea set to beat Celtic to Wolf signing after breakthrough in talks

Swansea City are in advanced talks to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Hannes Wolf and beat Celtic to a deal, Football Insider understands.

The two British clubs have both made contact over luring the 22-year-old from the Bundesliga outfit this month.

But a recruitment source has told Football Insider that Swansea are set to win the race to take Wolf on loan after a breakthrough in negotiations.

The Championship club are confident of tying up a deal for the Austrian before the weekend.

Monchengladbach are happy to let the former Austria Under-21 international move on in this window.

However, Celtic are closing in on a midfield signing of their own.

As revealed by Football Insider on Wednesday morning, Celtic are close to signing MK Dons midfielder Matt O’Riley after triggering his release clause.

A recruitment source told this site that the Hoops have met the £1.5million release clause active in O’Riley’s Dons contract.

He will become the latest player to join Ange Postecoglou’s Parkhead revolution.

On 31 December, Celtic announced the captures of Daizen Maeda from Yokohama F. Marinos, Yosuke Ideguchi from Gamba Osaka and Reo Hatate from Kawasaki Frontale.

Conor Hazard, Liam Shaw and Ewan Henderson have also all left the club on loan.

Wolf has made eight appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach this season but he has failed to register a goal or assist.

The Swans lie 17th in the Championship Table.
