Sources: Swindon Town star Lewis Ward undergoing Charlton Athletic medical today as deal agreed

Swindon Town goalkeeper Lewis Ward is undergoing a medical at Charlton Athletic, sources have told Football Insider.

The 26-year-old shot-stopper is poised to join the Addicks on a permanent deal after successful negotiations between the two sides.

Ward will provide competition and cover for current Charlton duo Ashley Maynard-Brewer and Harry Isted between the sticks at The Valley.

He has made eight appearances across all competitions for Swindon so far this season, conceding 16 goals.

The Reading academy product recently came into the side to replace former first-choice Robins goalkeeper Murphy Mahoney, who returned to parent club Queens Park Rangers after a serious injury.

Ward made four consecutive starts between the sticks for Swindon since Mahoney’s injury but was replaced by new signing Jack Bycroft for the 2-1 defeat away at Crewe on Saturday (13 January).

He rejoined Swindon in August 2023 after a previous spell at the club.

The 26-year-old has also had spells at Exeter, Aldershot, Forest Green Rovers, Sutton United, Northampton Town and Fylkir Reykjavík, among others.

Ward has racked up 117 senior career appearances, keeping 30 clean sheets.

Charlton sit 13th in League One following their recent 2-1 loss against high-flying Peterborough United.
