Robbie Gotts is set to be the next Leeds United breakthrough star after blowing Marcelo Bielsa’s coaching staff away at Thorp Arch, Football Insider has learned.
The midfielder, 19, is yet to make his senior bow but is making a growing impact with his performances and attitude behind the scenes on the training ground.
A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Gotts has made such a big impression on the club’s coaches that he has been earmarked for his first-team debut in the coming months.
They regard him as a one-man “hurricane” with his energy and drive from midfield, and ability to link midfield and attack.
The club’s staff believe the rising star, who is a versatile performer who can operate in central or more attacking positions as well as at full-back, has the pedigree to challenge the established stars.
Bielsa spoke warmly of Gotts at his media conference this week but warned he is competing with Mateusz Klich, Stuart Dallas, Jamie Shackleton and the injured Adam Forshaw for a first-team position.
Nevertheless, the Argentine has high hopes for Harrogate-born Gotts and is confident he can follow fellow youth-team products Jamie Shackleton and Jack Clarke into the senior side.
Gotts has trained solely with the senior squad since they returned in late June and has seized his opportunity to impress the United coaching staff.
He has been on the substitute’s bench for eight of Leeds’ Championship matches this season, as well as both of their League Cup fixtures.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that Bielsa is preparing to make a major change of heart over one Elland Road player.
