Sources: This is why Tottenham are waiting to sack Thomas Frank

Tottenham are reluctant to sack Thomas Frank amid fears that they won’t be able to land a top target to replace him, sources have told Football Insider.

The 52-year-old has been under immense pressure in recent weeks, but Tottenham feel that it would be difficult to prize an elite manager away from a job in the middle of the season to come and step into his role.

Football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley recently told Football Insider that Spurs could have to fork out £8million in compensation to Frank if they were to show him the door, and sources now say that is another concern that is preventing them from pulling the trigger.

Football Insider previously revealed that Tottenham could appoint an interim manager until the end of the season if the Dane is given the boot, and that remains the preferred option if they are ultimately forced into sacking him.

Tottenham fans have already lost faith in Thomas Frank

Tottenham fans are already losing patience with Frank after a dire run of form in the Premier League of late.

The Lilywhites needed a 90th-minute goal from Cristian Romero to avoid defeat away at Burnley on Saturday, despite their hosts being rooted inside the relegation zone and winless in the league since October.

Frank’s men have now won just two of their last 14 league games, and that has quickly seen the optimism that surrounded his appointment and the promising start to the season evaporate within the fanbase.

The recent home defeat to West Ham prompted an angry reaction inside the ground at the full-time whistle, while Spurs’ Champions League form has been the only consolation for their campaign so far.

They conclude their league phase fixtures with a visit to Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday night, and Frank will undoubtedly see that as a hugely important game for his future.

Spurs to fund last-minute transfers for Frank

Former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider on Sunday that he expects Tottenham to fund late additions to Frank’s squad before the 2 February transfer deadline.

Conor Gallagher and young left-back Souza are the only two fresh faces to have come through the door so far this month, but Wyness expects there will be more late activity at Spurs as they look to back Frank.

The board are desperately hoping that he can turn the team’s fortunes around in the coming weeks, but he will need the necessary tools in order to do so.

Tottenham spent heavily in the summer and have seen their campaign falter almost immediately, and they could now be about to open the chequebook again in a bid to fix their issues.
