Sources: Thomas Tuchel now pushing Bayern Munich to sign another Chelsea star

Thomas Tuchel is pushing Bayern Munich to sign Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The former Blues boss replaced Julian Nagelsmann in Munich last week and has already communicated to his new club that he’d like to add the 28-year-old Croatian to his squad.

There are also reports that Tuchel could make a move to sign Mason Mount from his ex-club this summer.

Kovacic has one year remaining on his current deal at Stamford Bridge, and the Premier League club may be tempted to cash in on him this summer to avoid losing him for free in a year’s time.

Graham Potter has urged Chelsea to extend Kovacic’s deal, but clubs have already started circling over a summer move in case he is made available at the end of the season.

Bayern are currently leading the race, but Man City and Man United are also both monitoring the situation and weighing up potential bids.

It is understood that Tuchel would like to reinforce Bayern’s midfield in the summer and sees Kovacic as the ideal fit for his long-term plans in Germany.

“He is a fantastic character – a lovely guy, a humble guy, and so interested in sports. He’s so happy to train and deliver for the team. It’s a true pleasure,” Tuchel said of Kovacic in 2022.

Kovacic made a permanent £40million switch to Chelsea from Real Madrid in 2019 after a loan stint the season prior, and he has become a key player in London throughout his five years at the club.

He has seen his game time limited this season under Graham Potter, making 28 appearances across all competitions, including just 1,246 minutes of Premier League action.
