Sources: Thomas Tuchel won’t accept Tottenham job unless key condition is met
Thomas Tuchel won’t consider becoming Tottenham manager unless they achieve Champions League qualification this season, sources have told Football Insider.
Current Spurs boss Antonio Conte is under huge pressure in North London after a string of underwhelming results and the club’s exit from the Champions League this week.
The Spurs board have highlighted former Chelsea boss Tuchel as a potential replacement for the underperforming Italian, but are aware that a top-four finish is essential if they are to lure the 49-year-old back to London.
Tuchel was sacked by new Blues owner Todd Boehly earlier this season after a poor start to the campaign, and he remains in search of a new job.
He spent 19 months with Chelsea after replacing Frank Lampard as manager in January 2021, and within his first season at the club he led the Blues to an extraordinary Champions League triumph as well as a top-three finish in the Premier League.
Tuchel lifted the first European Cup of his career after beating rivals Man City 1-0 in the final in Porto.
Tuchel came close to Champions League success in the 2019/20 season too, leading Paris Saint-Germain to the final before losing 1-0 to Bayern Munich.
Tuchel has averaged over two points per game during his last three stints at Borussia Dortmund, PSG and Chelsea, and his current win percentage as a manager sits at 57.2 after overseeing 565 games in his career.
