Sources: Torino make Che Adams transfer decision amid Birmingham City interest

Torino have closed the door on Che Adams potentially joining Birmingham City in January, sources have told Football Insider.

Birmingham attempted to sign Adams in the summer, and have renewed their interest as they look to bring in a new striker to bolster Chris Davies‘ squad.

But the Scotland international is now back in the starting XI at Torino after a period on the sidelines, and a January move is not expected.

That is a blow to the US-owned Championship club, who are hugely ambitious and still have hope of gatecrashing the end-of-season play-offs.

Birmingham are in the market for a striker, a left-back and a strong midfielder in the winter transfer window as they look to revitalise their season.

Birmingham draw up new manager shortlist

Football Insider revealed that Birmingham are drawing up a shortlist of manager replacements for Davies, who has led his side to four consecutive games without victory.

Wolves were among the clubs to battle for Che Adams in 2024, after the striker left Southampton on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old spent five years with the Saints, after signing from Birmingham in 2019 in a deal worth around £15million.

Nottingham Forest held talks with Adams, too, but the striker would eventually head overseas to Serie A side Torino.

His first season saw him score 10 goals in 38 games across all competitions, but the forward has not yet recreated that form in this campaign.

After a start to the season that saw Adams largely resigned to appearances off the bench, the Scotland international has since scored three goals in Serie A.

A return to the Championship, where the striker scored 22 goals for Birmingham in the 2018-19 season, may have been attractive, but he now looks set to stay put with Torino.

What Adams said after matching Scotland legend

Adams’ 10th goal for Torino, scored against Lazio in October, matched the legendary Denis Law’s 10 goals scored for the club in his 27 appearances between 1961 and 1962.

The striker has since surpassed the Manchester United icon’s tally, and had admitted that he would like to be playing a bigger role.

“I want to play more than I have been doing,” he said. “But I am happy to have scored and helped my team win a point.”

“It’s always good for me to score my first league goal of the season and hopefully, I can get some more,” he added.

Adams has got his wish in the months since, and will hope to fire Torino further up the league table in what remains of the season.
