Sources: Tottenham and West Ham race to sign Conor Gallagher

Premier League duo Tottenham and West Ham remain interested in signing Chelsea star Conor Gallagher this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Champions League newcomers Newcastle had previously been keen on a deal for the 23-year-old – but it is believed Spurs and West Ham are now the only clubs in the running for his signature.

The interest comes as Chelsea close in on the British-record signing of Brighton star Moises Caicedo despite late competition from Liverpool.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (11 August) that Caicedo’s Anfield move is “100% off” with the 21-year-old now ready to put pen to paper at Stamford Bridge.

It has also been widely reported that the Blues are also close to landing Southampton star Romeo Lavia – who is also a target for Liverpool.

Those two arrivals could leave Gallagher with a reduced role under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Speaking during pre-season (as per the London Evening Standard, 26 July), Pochettino insisted the England international is in his plans for the upcoming campaign.

However, big-money deals for Caicedo and Lavia could soften that stance with free-spending Chelsea still needing to balance the books for FFP purposes.

Both Tottenham and West Ham have received £100million-plus fees this summer thanks to the respective sales of Harry Kane and Declan Rice to Bayern Munich and Arsenal.

And the Irons could now also lose creative midfielder Lucas Paqueta to treble-winning Man City after he was made a top target by Pep Guardiola.

It is believed City have already seen a bid of £70million rejected for the 25-year-old.

Gallagher made 45 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 season – scoring three and assisting one.

His contract at Chelsea runs until June 2025.
