Sources: Tottenham could accept new offer for star ousted by James Maddison

Tottenham could accept a January offer for Giovani Lo Celso, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old impressed during pre-season and was given a second chance at a Spurs career by Ange Postecoglou.

However, James Maddison has thrilled during the opening stages of the 2023-24 campaign looks undroppable in an attacking midfield berth for Tottenham.

Lo Celso has been injured for all of September so far and is set to miss out on Sunday’s (24 September) derby clash with Arsenal.

The Argentina international will now find it hard to break back into the side with Spurs in such good form.

Postecoglou’s side have also been dumped out of the League Cup, giving the midfielder one less opportunity to shine.

It is believed the player himself will have a decision to make in January regarding his future at Spurs.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the winter window could well be the best time for Tottenham to sell Lo Celso – who is set to enter the final year of his contract in June 2024.

The 27-year-old was the subject of interest from Barcelona and other Spanish sides during the off-season, but a move failed to materialise before the 1 September deadline.

Football Insider also revealed (25 August) that Aston Villa were monitoring Lo Celso during the summer window, but eventually cooled their interest in the Tottenham midfielder.
