Sources: Tottenham hijack Everton’s Arnaut Danjuma deal in last-gasp swoop

Tottenham have hijacked Everton’s deal for Arnaut Danjuma, sources have told Football Insider.

The Londoners have made a stunning move to win the race for the Villarreal forward just when Everton were on the brink of registering him and announcing the transfer.

The Merseysiders had been about to formalise the capture of the 25-year-old on a loan deal.

But there has been a hold-up over the transfer even though Danjuma has already completed a medical and agreed the deal.

He could now be headed to Tottenham in what would be a sensational twist.

Netherlands international Danjuma has notched six goals in 17 appearances so far this season.

His first season at Villarreal was more productive – as he registered 16 goals and four assists in 34 games.

He cost the Spanish club a reported £21.3million when he joined from Bournemouth in 2021.

The winger is no stranger to the Premier League – having made 14 appearances for the Cherries in the English top flight during the 2019-20 campaign.

He has gone on to represent his country six times – scoring twice.

Everton had hoped to add the winger to their arsenal as part of their bid to avoid relegation – with their relegation rivals spending big in the mid-season window.

However, Tottenham have now moved to hijack the deal with Antonio Conte’s side in need of attacking reinforcements.

The form of Heung-min Son has been called into question, with last season’s Golden Boot winner managing just four league goals so far this season.

Spurs will play in the Champions League knockout stage next month – with a two-legged tie against Milan on the Round of 16 slate.

Antonio Conte looks on during his time as Tottenham manager

Tottenham sit fifth in the Premier League – and trail fourth-place Man United by three points following a 1-0 win over Fulham on Monday (23 January).

They face Preston in FA Cup action on Saturday (28 January).

In other news, pundit claims Antonio Conte has made a “massive mistake” amid Tottenham contract latest.
