Sources: Tottenham plan sensational Harry Kane return after pulling at his heart strings
Tottenham are set to go three seasons without Harry Kane as the striker eyes up the chance to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League record.
Dazzling in Germany, Kane broke David Beckham’s Champions League record against Chelsea in a 3-1 victory for Bayern Munich.
Sources told Football Insider that Man United are monitoring Kane’s situation with the forward going from strength to strength since leaving England.
The 32-year-old’s contract ends in 2027 which has opened up speculation over where his long-term future lies in the twilight of his career.
Harry Kane could agree Bayern Munich exit as Tottenham remain interested
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the former Lilywhite could reunite with his boyhood club.
Sources told Football Insider on 8 August that Tottenham were plotting a surprise return for Kane which couldn’t be finalised over the course of the summer.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast of the possibility of the Englishman coming back to North London, I explained: “Well, obviously there’s a big association between Harry Kane and Tottenham and, obviously, Thomas Frank has publicly admitted he would welcome Kane back at Tottenham if he was to leave Bayern Munich.
“As you said, there is this clause meaning he could leave next summer if he informs Bayern that he wants to leave before the close of the January transfer window, giving them time to bring in a replacement.
“So he could potentially be allowed to leave next summer for £56.7million, which although he’s not getting any younger, Kane still I think that he would be a bargain because he is basically a guarantee of goals.
“13 goals and three assists from seven appearances in all competitions for Bayern already this season as well.
“I’m sure Spurs are still pulling the heartstrings of Harry Kane. He had such a great time there.
“The chance to maybe return to the Premier League and chase down Alan Shearer for that all-time Premier League goal-scoring record I’m sure is something that might be in the back of his mind.”
Richarlison to be main loser if Kane returns to Tottenham
Should the number nine make a shock move to his beloved Spurs then it would see Frank’s number one striker be pushed down the pecking order.
Sources told Football Insider in August that Tottenham were trying to sell Richarlison to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford.
Ultimately, the move didn’t work out but the Brazilian will be on high alert that his club have previously shown intent to offload him.
The 28-year-old has started brightly under the Dane by notching three goals in five Premier League appearances.
Yet, if Kane was to re-enter the fray in north London, the South American may be forced to reconsider his options to ensure he is the first-choice striker at a different team.
