Sources: Tottenham plan to agree ‘huge’ Heung-min Son deal

Heung-min Son is keen to commit the rest of his career to Tottenham as they prepare to offer him a bumper new deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The 31-year-old has been thrilled by the significant impact of manager Ange Postecoglou and is eager to play a key role in the club’s long-term future.

Football Insider revealed on 22nd September that Tottenham are ready to open talks with Son over a new deal.

It is believed Spurs will initially activate the one-year extension clause in his current deal which will keep him in north London until June 2026.

However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that the club could open talks with Son about a completely new long-term deal.

Such an agreement would likely see the talisman earn a pay bump to reflect his new-found status as club captain, which sources say would be “huge”.

He is reportedly earning £190,000 per week on his current Tottenham deal which makes him the club’s highest paid star.

Postecoglou named the South Korean the new captain following Harry Kane’s £100million move to Bayern Munich this summer.

Son has continued to flourish at Tottenham under the Australian and has notched 10 goals and four assists in the Premier League this season, including a hattrick against Burnley and a brace against rivals Arsenal.

Spurs have been revitalised under Postecoglou following the tumultuous tenures of Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espírito Santo and Antonio Conte.

They sit fifth in the Premier League on 30 points following their 4-1 win over Newcastle and next face Nottingham Forest away on Friday night (15 December).
