Sources: Tottenham take strong action after Leeds terminate Djed Spence deal

Tottenham are willing to sell Djed Spence permanently in January after his Leeds loan was abruptly terminated, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the Lilywhites have put the full-back up for sale to generate cash for Ange Postecoglou and bring in further additions to his squad.

Spence, whose loan was cut short, faced strong criticism from Leeds United manager Daniel Farke following his injury-hit spell at Elland Road.

Speaking on Spence’s departure, the German noted that demands are “very high and we don’t differ between loan players and permanent players” regarding “professionalism” and “discipline”.

There remain big question marks over Spence at Tottenham, who now want to sell him permanently but do not expect to recoup the full fee paid to Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022.

The Englishman moved to north London for £12.5m rising to £20m after a promotion-achieving loan spell with Nottingham Forest in the 2021-22 season.

However, he failed to make his mark at Tottenham and was shipped out to Leeds following their relegation to the Championship last season.

In Yorkshire, he did little to impress coaches or fans and made just seven appearances after returning from a ligament injury early in the campaign.

Now, Tottenham do not see him as part of their long-term plans despite the brutal injury crisis to their defence with Cristian Romero, Ben Davies and Ivan Perisic currently sidelined.

The club are expected to be very active in the market this January and, as revealed by Football Insider (7 January), remain in talks with Genoa defender Radu Dragusin.

They are also expected to part ways with Eric Dier, with sources telling Football Insider (6 January) that Bayern Munich are readying a formal offer for the centre-back after agreeing personal terms.

RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner is also expected to join on a loan-to-buy deal, with Football Insider understanding that he was expected to have his medical on Sunday.
