Sources: Tottenham want Eric Dier deal finalised soon after talks open

Tottenham are keen to finalise a new three-year deal for defender Eric Dier soon, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old’s current contract expires in 2024 and Spurs have opened talks with him about extending his stay until the summer of 2026.

Tottenham want to wrap up the deal for the versatile and long-serving star irrespective of the identity of their next manager.

Dier has been well-regarded by all the Spurs managers in recent years, starting with Mauricio Pochettino, who mainly played him in midfield, and including Antonio Conte, who used him entirely in a three-man defence.

There is a willingness from all parties to get a new deal for Dier over the line quickly.

Spurs will then turn their full attention towards contract negotiations with Harry Kane – who is also out of contract in the summer of 2024.

Dier earns a reported wage of £85,000-a-week on the contract he signed back in July 2020.

The 49-cap England international has racked up 37 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign, notching two goals and one assist.

He has been a regular in the starting eleven alongside World Cup winner Cristian Romero, with Ben Davies and on-loan defender Clement Lenglet battling for the last space in a three-man defence.

Dier has managed 356 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions since joining the club for a reported fee of £4million in 2014.

Despite a drama-filled season which included the departure of Conte, Spurs remain firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish.
