Sources: Tottenham’s new Cristian Romero stance revealed after early talks
Tottenham are standing firm on their £60million valuation of star defender Cristian Romero, sources have told Football Insider.
The Spurs star, 27, is wanted by Spanish giants Atletico Madrid but they have been unsuccessful in their early attempts to land him following talks.
Romero is a key man for new manager Thomas Frank and the Lilywhites are reluctant to lose him ahead of Champions League participation.
However, sources say the Argentina international could push for a move away in a bid to get Tottenham to lower their asking price.
Romero may have to push to secure Tottenham exit
Romero was a strong ally of former boss Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked at the end of the 2024-25 campaign despite winning the Europa League.
He joined Tottenham on an initial loan from Juventus in 2021 before making his stay permanent a year later.

The centre-back started 26 games across all competitions last term and often wore the captain’s armband for Postecoglou’s side.
Romero struggled with injury in the 2024-25 campaign alongside fellow centre-back Micky van de Ven, with Spurs enduring a fitness crisis throughout the season.
The World Cup winner’s contract in north London is set to run until June 2027.

Tottenham make contact over £70m winger deal
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (23 June) that Tottenham have made contact about a potential deal for Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo.
The Cherries have placed a £70million asking price on the 25-year-old’s head and are confident of sealing a swift deal for a replacement if that price tag is met.
Semenyo is a good fit for Frank‘s all-action style following the Dane’s appointment at Tottenham this month.
