Sources: Troubled Rangers star Josh McPake handed surprise recall
On-loan Rangers star Josh McPake is set for a surprise recall to the Queen’s Park side for Friday night’s (5 May) Scottish Championship title decider against Dundee, sources have told Football Insider.
The 21-year-old is set to start in the crunch clash after failing to do so in the last four league matches.
McPake has started just once in the last 11 second-tier games after his temporary spell at Queen’s Park turned sour.
Football Insider revealed last month (18 April) that his Rangers future is hanging in the balance after his limited impact on loan at Ochilview Park.
The winger had initially started brightly at the club but poor performances and off-field issues could mean he is unlikely to have a future at Ibrox.
McPake has notched four goals and three assists in 31 appearances across all competitions for Queen’s Park this term.
Last month (4 March), Football Insider revealed that Rangers fined McPake as a result of his disciplinary issues – and had been looking to offload him permanently in the January window.
There has been interest from Falkirk among other clubs in the Scottish second tier, and the 21-year-old may need to take a division drop to seal a permanent exit.
McPake’s contract at Rangers is set to expire in May 2024.

The winger, who has now had six loan spells away from Ibrox, has made just one senior appearance for the Gers since his breakthrough in 2019.
Queen’s Park can only win the Scottish Championship title by beating first-place Dundee at home on Friday (5 May).
