Sources: Two senior men set to be sacked by Aston Villa this week

Aston Villa are planning to sack two senior members of their recruitment team this week, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

Longstanding scouts Mick Brown and Alan Wood are set to be offloaded amid a major revamp behind the scenes.

A Villa source has told Football Insider that the two talent spotters have been instructed to attend a meeting at the club’s training headquarters on Friday.

The club’s plan is to dismiss them and put more emphasis on recruitment from analysts and number crunchers.

Villa’s expected decision to part with senior duo Brown and Wood is a surprise given their experience and the esteem in which they are held in the industry.

It comes at a time when head of recruitment Rob Mackenzie has also held talks about joining Bristol City, who are managed by his former Leicester City and OH Leuven ally Nigel Pearson.

The Midlands giants are gearing up for what Football Insider revealed last month is expected to be another summer of major spending.

Owners Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris will fund another big recruitment drive as they look to establish Villa as top-six club.

Wood and Brown have been assessing potential signings for the department run by sporting director Johan Lange.

Both are extremely experienced football men with renowned eyes for spotting players.

Brown has been in the game so long that he was hired by Man United as assistant manager to Ron Atkinson 40 years ago and he also held the post of chief scout at the club.

In other news, an extraordinary Mendes plan involving Aston Villa can be revealed.
