Sources: Update on Arsenal and Newcastle signing Arda Guler in January

Newcastle and Arsenal are both making their next transfer plans to strengthen their squads ahead of a congested season.

Links between the Premier League and Real Madrid have caught the eye as Xabi Alonso looks to bolster his side as part of his long-term project.

Sources told Football Insider that Man City are looking to hold contract talks with Rodri amid interest from los Blancos.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed that Chelsea will be holding on to Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo despite the Spanish giants’ pursuit of the pair as they bid to revitalise the midfield at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Yet, Alonso will also need to be braced for receiving admirers for his talented players ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

Newcastle and Arsenal to lose out on Arda Guler as Real Madrid remain stubborn on transfer stance

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Real Madrid will be keen to retain Arda Guler despite their ambitious plans to secure more players in the near future.

Sources told Football Insider on 23 September that Arsenal will have to calm their interest in Guler with the Madrid-based side firm on holding on to the wonderkid.

The Magpies are also in the hunt for to recruit more attackers but will be unlikely to make any gains over the Gunners for the Turk.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I would say it’s probably nearly impossible to sign Arda Guler in January.

“He’s become more instrumental in the Real Madrid team since the appointment of Xabi Alonso. He’s obviously got the trust of Xabi Alonso. He’s been picked ahead of some of the other real big names in that Real Madrid team.

“And to be fair to Guler, he’s rewarded that faith that Alonso has shown him in him with three goals and four assists.

“So look, Guler’s a top player. He’s shown that for Real Madrid this season and he’s shown that in the past for Turkey. He’s under a long-term contract with Real Madrid.

“Real Madrid are not going to weaken their squad in January because they will be competing for silverware on all fronts, La Liga, Champions League and everything else.

“So yeah, don’t think there’ll be any possibility of Guler leaving. And as I said, I think he’s establishing himself as a key man.”

Newcastle turn attention to keeping Bruno Guimaraes at St James’ Park

Sources told Football Insider on 29 September that Newcastle will explore a new contract for Bruno Guimaraes after interest from Man City over the summer.

The Brazilian has been one of the shining stars under Eddie Howe and has shown his love for the city and the club through his exceptional performances on the pitch.

The former Lyon midfielder is on contract until June 2028, yet a monster new contract will almost certainly deter any future suitors coming in for the Toon’s prized man in the near future.

His contract situation could affect if Manuel Locatelli’s potential move to Newcastle with concerns over playing time ahead of the 2026 World Cup with Italy.
