Sources: Vincent Kompany plotting to sign Man City sensation Trafford
Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is planning to raid former side Man City to sign goalkeeper sensation James Trafford, sources have told Football Insider.
Kompany is aware of the 20-year-old due to his City connections and watched him in action for loan club Bolton during their playoff semi-final against Barnsley on Saturday (13 May).
Sources with knowledge of the situation have told Football Insider that the Clarets boss believes Trafford could be an excellent addition to his squad for their return to the Premier League next season.
The youngster has been one of the best goalkeepers in League One while at Bolton this season and also helped them win the EFL Trophy.
Trafford has made 51 appearances across all competitions this term, conceding 37 goals and keeping 26 clean sheets.
He joined Bolton on loan in January 2022 and will return to parent club Man City when their playoff campaign concludes.
The youngster is hugely ambitious, but it is believed that he will find it hard to break into the Citizens’ first-team squad with Ederson and Stefan Ortega considered adequate goalkeeping options.
However, a first-team pathway could be open at Burnley – who are keen to add a new goalkeeper in the off-season.
The England Under-21 international is yet to play a senior game for Man City.
Burnley’s current number one Arijanet Muric was brought to the club from the Etihad Stadium after several loan spells of varying success.

The Kosovo international kept 19 clean sheets across 41 Championship appearances in the 2022-23 campaign.
Bailey Peacock-Farrell is also on the books at Turf Moor and featured in Burnley’s cup matches this term.
