Sources: West Brom board have clear Ryan Mason plan amid Championship sack latest

West Brom’s board are hoping to give Ryan Mason time to turn their situation around despite a frustrating start to the season, sources have told Football Insider.

The Baggies handed the highly-regarded former Tottenham coach his first permanent managerial role in senior football in the summer, but he has delivered mixed results for them so far in 2025-26.

Mason was appointed as West Brom’s boss back in June, as he emerged as their preferred candidate following a lengthy search to fill the vacancy left by Tony Mowbray’s departure.

The Black Country outfit are currently sitting 16th in what is a very congested Championship table, and their recent results have seen the pressure pile onto the 34-year-old in recent weeks.

Ryan Mason retains the support of the West Brom players

The pressure on Mason has continued to mount at West Brom in the aftermath of their 3-1 defeat to QPR last weekend, and he is now the firm favourite to be the next sacking in the Championship, according to the bookies.

However, there are currently no plans from the board at The Hawthorns to dismiss the young boss, despite a difficult run of form that has seen them win just two of their last nine league games.

Sources have indicated to Football Insider that the players are still firmly behind Mason at the moment, which, in turn, has been seen as a major vote of confidence by the board.

The West Brom hierarchy are still hopeful that the former midfielder can turn things around in the coming weeks, especially given that the team are still just five points away from the play-off positions.

Ryan Mason must fix major issue in order to save his job

West Brom are set to back Mason with further signings in January, with Rangers youngster Bailey Rice one of their main targets at present.

The boss’ position may be safe for now, but he simply has to address the alarming state of his team’s away form if he is to continue to ward off the pressure that is mounting from within the fanbase.

West Brom’s 2025-26 away form, compared to other Championship teams.

West Brom have won just three of their 10 league games away from home so far in 2025-26, and they boast one of the Championship’s weakest records on the road.

Mason’s men have tasted defeat seven times on their travels, and are clearly lacking the resilience and fortitude needed to snatch draws from games where they come under pressure from their hosts.

Their issues away from The Hawthorns have hindered their progress in the early months of the campaign, and if that doesn’t change, then it could ultimately spell trouble for Mason later down the line.
