Sources: West Ham coaches really excited about wonderkid Oliver Scarles
West Ham are really excited about the potential of wonderkid Oliver Scarles, sources have told Football Insider.
The 17-year-old has made big strides this season in the club’s youth set-up after making a seamless progression from Under-18s to Under-21s football.
Scarles is seen by West Ham coaches as a future first-team star capable of thriving in multiple positions.
He is predominantly a left-back or left wing-back, but can also slot in at centre-back or in a defensive midfield role.
Scarles signed a professional contract with the Irons at the first opportunity when he turned 17 last December, following on from forward Callum Marshall, who did the same the previous month.
Scarles made his first-team debut for the Irons back in November for their Europa Conference League game against FC Bucharest and became the club’s sixth youngest appearance maker.
As quoted by football.london, (5 October), speaking on his call up, Hammers boss Moyes said Scarles is doing “really well” and deserves to be rewarded with first team football.
The versatile youngster started playing for West Ham age-group sides when he was 12 and has progressed through the ranks at the London Stadium.

Scarles made his debut at a national level for England Under-17s in September 2021 and made four appearances for them last year.
This season, he has made ten league appearances for the Hammers under-18s and has scored two goals and provided five assists.
In other news, an expert has claimed David Moyes is ‘trembling’ over Danny Ings issue at West Ham.
