Sources: West Ham move for Armando Broja collapses after talks
West Ham can’t afford to make a move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Blues would want at least £50million for the 22-year-old, which is well out of the Hammers’ winter budget.
It is believed that West Ham have prioritised a striker this month, but a winter move for the Albania international is off the cards after preliminary discussions.
Broja has been a long-term target of the Hammers and they could revive their interest in him in the summer.
The Hammers, like many other Premier League sides, are not expected to spend vast sums in January, especially considering their heavy recruitment in the summer.
He has scored just two goals and provided one assist for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season across 17 appearances in all competitions.
However, he impressed with a very prolific loan spell with Southampton in 2021-22, scoring nine goals, but had last season cut short due to a cruciate ligament tear.
With injuries to Michail Antonio and the future of Danny Ings uncertain, David Moyes’ side are eager to recruit in this area.
They also have numerous transfer targets for wingers with both Maxwel Cornet and Said Benrahma available to prospective clubs.
As revealed by Football Insider (19 January), Irons chiefs are spearheading a bid for versatile Ajax forward Steven Bergwijn this month – but manager David Moyes is not keen.
They are also eyeing a move for Leeds United ace Willy Gnonto, with Football Insider revealing (20 January) that they are now favourites to bring him back to the Premier League this month.

West Ham remain sixth in the Premier League table after their 2-2 draw against Sheffield United on Sunday (21 January).
They are next in action against Bournemouth in the league on Thursday 1 February.
