Sources: West Ham now in three-way race to sign Lingard

West Ham face competition from Turkish duo Galatasaray and Fenerbahce for attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (4 September) that the Irons are still considering offering the 30-year-old a short-term deal.

Lingard has impressed while training with the West Ham squad during the summer but is yet to receive a formal offer from the London outfit.

And Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are now considering a move for the former England international.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Turkey is a likely destination for Lingard if David Moyes’ side don’t make the midfielder a formal offer.

Lingard remains a free agent following his release by Nottingham Forest in June.

West Ham went head-to-head with Forest for the ex-Man United star last summer (2022) – but he chose to move to the City Ground on a free transfer.

Lingard’s move proved underwhelming, as he managed just two goals and two assists in 20 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign.

The former England international previously had a loan spell at West Ham in the second half of the 2020-21 season, notching nine goals and five assists in 16 appearances.

He has racked up 182 games in the Premier League, notching 29 goals and 17 assists.

All three of Lingard’s potential suitors will play European football this season.

David Moyes’ side are in the Europa League group stage, while Galatasaray and Fenerbahce qualified for the Champions League and Europa Conference League respectively.
