Sources: West Ham open internal striker talks – multiple signings expected

West Ham are preparing for a busy January transfer window with multiple new signings expected, sources have told Football Insider.

The Hammers are looking to strengthen in a number of positions ahead of the second half of the 2023-24 season.

It is understood that a new striker has been made a priority by the West Ham recruitment team, with Michail Antonio struggling with injury and Danny Ings falling out of favour under David Moyes.

Ings has played just 130 minutes of Premier League football this season and was left on the bench by Moyes during the 5-0 defeat to Fulham last week with Jarrod Bowen preferred as the main striker.

Antonio has scored just twice in 12 league appearances for the Hammers this season, and the 33-year-old has now missed four successive games with a knee injury.

As well as a striker, West Ham will look to strengthen other positions next month with some key players out of contract at the end of the season.

Tomas Soucek, Antonio, Pablo Fornals, Vladimir Coufal and Lukasz Fabianski are all set to have their contracts expire in the summer of 2024.

Overall, West Ham have 11 players with expiring contracts next season so the London club are preparing for a busy window next month.

Players are also expected to leave the London Stadium in what could turn out to be a significant overhaul of Moyes’ squad.

Multiple signings are expected with the club hierarchy aware that squad investment is urgently needed.
