Sources: West Ham plot raid to sign Zakaria

West Ham are considering a move for Juventus midfielder Denis Zakaria this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Irons are drawing up transfer plans as they prepare for the exit of Declan Rice – who is expected to join Arsenal in a reported £105million deal.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Zakaria, 26, has been identified as an “attainable” target as there is little chance of him breaking into the Juventus side for the 2023-24 campaign.

David Moyes is an admirer of the midfielder – who spent last term on loan at Chelsea – and feels there is a deal to be done for his services.

Zakaria failed to make an impression at Stamford Bridge in the 2022-23 campaign but nonetheless has acquired a good reputation during his time in Europe.

He made just seven starts in 11 total appearances for Chelsea, scoring once.

The midfielder, who can play in a number eight role and in holding midfield as well as at centre-back, only joined Juventus in January 2022.

He has made a total of 15 appearances for the Turin giants, with his contract set to expire in June 2026.

Zakaria’s most memorable spell came at Borussia Monchengladbach, where he made 146 appearances in five years.

The 26-year-old has also racked up 49 caps for Switzerland and has played for his country at three major tournaments.

Fulham

West Ham are pursuing alternative targets after a setback in their move for Fulham’s Joao Palhinha.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (30 June) that Palhinha remains the top target – but the Irons could be forced to end their pursuit with Fulham asking for a fee of £60million.
