Sources: West Ham star Craig Dawson wants to leave in January

Craig Dawson wants to leave West Ham in January after failing to secure a summer move to Wolves, sources have told Football Insider.

The Midlands club had agreed a £4million deal for the centre-back, 32, and lined up a deadline-day medical before the transfer collapsed at the eleventh hour.

Dawson wanted to quit the London Stadium to be closer to his family in Cheshire and it is believed he is still keen to head north.

The defender has lost his regular starting place for West Ham this season after being a near-untouchable last term.

He made 45 starts among 50 Irons appearances in 2021-22 to earn cult status among supporters.

But he has struggled for game time this season and has only made two Premier League starts this term.

The Hammers bolstered their defensive ranks in the summer with the signings of Nayef Aguerd and Thilo Kehrer and Dawson has slipped down the pecking order as a result.

Ageurd made his long-awaited competitive debut in the 1-0 win over Silkeborg in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night (27 October).

As a result, it is likely that Dawson‘s opportunities at London Stadium will become limited even further.

He has not made a matchday squad since the 3-1 win over Fulham earlier this month (9 October) partly due to injury.

West Ham

The Englishman is out of contract in the summer and David Moyes may decide to let him leave in January.

He has made 80 appearances across all competitions for West Ham, chipping in with an impressive nine goals and two assists.

In other news, West Ham have been hit by a big blow after a £4million offer.
