Sources: Wolves in advanced talks to appoint Michael Beale amid development today

Michael Beale is in advanced talks to be the new Wolves manager, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League club are set to make a formal approach for the 42-year-old QPR boss on Thursday (20 October) after being encouraged by preliminary talks.

Beale has been targeted after Wolves decided against re-appointing Nuno Espirito Santo and were turned down by Julen Lopetegui.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (18 October) that Wolves had shortlisted Beale as they looked to move away from clients of the Jorge Mendes agency.

Lage, who was sacked this month, and Nuno are in the Mendes stable, as is Lopetegui, who rejected Wolves’ offer in order to stay closer to his elderly father in Spain.

Wolves hope to have Beale in place for Sunday’s (23 October) match at home to their fellow strugglers Leicester.

The board have given the green light to luring Beale from Loftus Road following the remarkable start to his managerial career.

QPR sit top of the Championship after 15 games following their 3-0 win over Cardiff City on Wednesday (19 October).

Speaking post-match and quoted by the BBC, Beale admitted it would be “difficult to leave Loftus Road” but admitted managing in the Premier League is “100% a dream of mine”.

The 42-year-old acted as assistant manager to under-pressure Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard at Villa Park and Rangers before leaving for the Championship in the off-season.

Wolves’ top-flight fortunes are a lot different to QPR’s, with the Molineux club sitting in the bottom three following their 2-1 loss against Crystal Palace on Tuesday (18 October).

A win against Nottingham Forest looked to have given the Midlands club a brief reprieve, but they have still scored the fewest goals of any club in the top flight this season.

They face Leicester, Brentford, Brighton, and Arsenal before the World Cup break next month.
