Sources: Wolves in talks with Rob Edwards, Middlesbrough plan revealed

Wolves have held talks with Rob Edwards over their vacant managerial position, sources have told Football Insider.

The Midlands outfit are accelerating their search for a new boss following the sacking of Vitor Pereira last weekend.

However, despite contact between Edwards and Wolves, there is currently no agreement in place for the Middlesbrough manager to take over at Molineux.

Sources say that Boro are still confident of keeping the 42-year-old, who only joined the club over the summer.

Nonetheless, Edwards is the current favourite to succeed Pereira, after Gary O’Neil withdrew from the process following initial talks.

However, there are question marks around whether the ex-Luton Town boss would leave Middlesbrough given the current situation.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has already urged Edwards to reject any offer from Wolves and remain on Teeside.

Boro currently sit third in the Championship after 14 games of the season, just a point behind Stoke City, who occupy the last automatic promotion spot.

Wolves have alternative options to Rob Edwards

Despite holding talks with Edwards, sources say Wolves are still considering a number of different managerial options, including Erik Ten Hag.

Ten Hag has been linked with a move to Molineux, which would be his first return to English football for the Dutchman since he was sacked by Manchester United in October 2024.

The 55-year-old was most recently in charge of Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, where he lasted just two league games before being dismissed.

Robbie Keane and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have also both been linked with the Wolves job.
