Sources: Wolves star Dion Sanderson undergoing Birmingham City medical today after deal agreed

Wolves centre-back Dion Sanderson will undergo a Birmingham City medical today (14 July), sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League club have agreed to sell the 23-year-old defender after agreeing a £2million fee with their Midlands rivals.

Sanderson has already agreed personal terms with the Blues and is set to finalise his move once a medical assessment is completed.

Football Insider understands that Wolves have inserted a sell-on clause as part of the deal.

Championship side Stoke City also submitted a bid for Sanderson, but Birmingham have won the race for the highly-rated defender.

Sanderson has only made one senior appearance during his four years at Wolves, with the remainder of his time at the club spent out on loan.

Sanderson spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at St Andrew’s, playing 3,000 minutes across all competitions as he helped Birmingham to a 17th-placed finish in the league table.

He scored twice in 34 appearances and played a pivotal role in a backline that conceded 58 goals in 46 league fixtures.

Sanderson evidently impressed manager John Eustace during his temporary stint, and the Blues boss has pushed to make him a permanent addition this summer.

The young centre-back also spent the first half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Birmingham before he was recalled by Wolves in January due to a shortage of defenders.

Sanderson is set to become Birmingham’s first permanent signing since the club was officially taken over by Shelby Companies Limited – a US-based company headed by Tom Wagner.
