Sources: Tottenham turn attention to signing Sevilla star after Man City block deal
Tottenham have identified a new wide option to strengthen Thomas Frank’s squad after Man City blocked their move for Savinho.
Football Insider revealed on 29 August that Man City had no plans to sell Savinho, forcing Tottenham to look elsewhere both in the summer and January transfer windows.
As a result, Spurs have set their sights on Sevilla winger Ruben Vargas, who emerged as one of the names on their radar to strengthen in the wide areas.
However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, signing a new winger is no longer a priority for Frank’s side.
The arrival of Xavi Simons, alongside the likes of Wilson Odobert, Mathys Tel and Richarlison, has nullified their need for additional options out wide.

Tottenham consider move to sign Sevilla star Ruben Vargas
Football Insider revealed on 26 August that Tottenham planned to sign a new winger in the closing stages of the summer window as one of their priority positions.
However, Frank is believed to be happy with the options at his disposal on both flanks and will instead prioritise other positions in the mid-season window.
While Vargas remains a name on Spurs’ radar, it is currently considered unlikely that they will step up their interest when January arrives.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “It’s an interesting one. Spurs tried for Savinho in the summer, but weren’t able to get a deal done as City blocked that.
“Vargas is a player who’s done really well for Sevilla, Swiss international as well. So he’s obviously, I think, attracting interest from a number of clubs, not just Tottenham.
“Spurs are quite well-stocked out wide after they got a deal done for Simons, who plays in the same position as Vargas.
“They’ve also got Odobert, Tel and even Richarlison who can play out wide, so I don’t think it’s a priority for Tottenham to be signing another wide player.

“Vargas is a good player, he’s under contract at Sevilla until 2029, so they’re going to demand a decent fee as well for the winger.
“So as I said, I don’t think it’s a priority for Tottenham in the January window, so while Vargas has emerged on their radar, it’s not a move Spurs will be pushing for in January.”
Instead, Frank is set to prioritise other positions in his squad, with a winger no longer at the top of their shortlist for the mid-season window.
Thomas Frank’s priority emerges ahead of January transfer
While the addition of a new winger has dropped down the list of priorities in North London, a new central midfield player remains a key target for Frank.
Football Insider revealed on 19 September that Tottenham are interested in Conor Gallagher, although Atletico Madrid are unlikely to let him leave.
Meanwhile, Thomas Frank was left frustrated at Tottenham after James Maddison’s injury left them without a direct replacement in the summer.

Football Insider revealed on 15 September that West Ham and Everton are interested in Yves Bissouma, who could be allowed to leave Spurs in January.
Should the midfielder move on, there is a growing likelihood he will be replaced in the transfer market, with a number of options under consideration.
