‘Southampton have agreed termination fee after exit update’

Southampton have endured a miserable season after their immediate relegation back down to the Championship has been confirmed.

The Saints currently sit bottom of the Premier League table, eight points behind second-bottom Leicester City heading into the final six games of the campaign.

Ivan Juric has been sacked as Southampton manager, less than four months after he replaced Russell Martin in the St Mary’s dugout.

The Croatian boss secured just two victories in his 16 games in charge.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Southampton likely agreed termination clauses with both Martin and Juric before they were sacked.

The Hampshire club are now considering their options for their next manager appointment ahead of their return to the Championship.

Danny Rohl is the favourite to land the Southampton job following his impressive work at Sheffield Wednesday.

Southampton avoid ‘crazy’ manager payout after sacking

Borson revealed he expects Southampton to have avoided making a “crazy” payout to Martin and Juric following their sackings.

He told Football Insider: “I would have thought that they would have made sure that they had some pretty clear and precise damages clauses for those managers that showed them what they would get in the event that they were sacked.

“That probably wasn’t actually that material just because it was always very likely they would be unsuccessful, and they would be removed.

“But maybe not. We will see when the accounts come out next year.

“But it would be surprising if they’ve foolishly paid a lot for two managers. That would be crazy.

“I suspect that they’ve been suitably well managed, such that the payouts were modest in the grand scheme of football payouts.”

Southampton get extra £42m after new reveal

Football Insider revealed on 9 April Southampton landed an extra £42million after cutting their wage bill from £123million to £81million last season.

However, the Saints’ latest accounts for 2023-24 revealed their overall turnover fell from £146million in 2022-23 to £85million.

The club’s pre-tax losses fell from £87million to £17million across the same period as they looked to bring down their costs at St Mary’s.
