Southampton player ratings v Hapoel: Attacker is 3/10
COMMENT By Harvey Byrne
Football Insider rates the Southampton players in their 1-1 draw against Hapoel Beer Sheva in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Fraser Forster 5 – The England international was rarely tested by the opposition’s attack, but should have done better with the goal conceded.
Cedric Soares 5 – Was solid in defence, but when in attack his final delivery was poor.
Virgil van Dijk 6 – The star defender won every 50-50, but should have scored the opener with a free header from a corner. Unfortunately his goal eventually came when it was too late.
Maya Yoshida 6 – The once much-maligned centre-back gave another solid performance and couldn’t have stopped the goal.
Ryan Bertrand 5 – A similar performance to Cedric on the other side in that he was solid in defence, but his final ball is usually a much higher standard.
Steven Davis 6 – Mr. Dependable once again. He gave a solid display in the centre of the park without pulling up trees.
Oriol Romeu 5 – Bossed the midfield before an error cost his side the game and the Europa League.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 5 – The midfielder has still yet to show why he was signed by Bayern Munich in the summer, but he’s solid.
Josh Sims 6 – The youngster was a lot quieter than his debut against Everton. Struggled to impose himself on the game and was rightly subbed off.
Charlie Austin 6 – Didn’t see much of the ball before suffering an injury after just 39 minutes.
Nathan Redmond 3 – The attacker’s decision making was all wrong over the 90 minutes and you’ll struggle to find one pass of his in the final third that found a team-mate.
SUBS:
Shane Long (for Austin 39 mins) – 5
Dusan Tadic (for Sims 59 mins) – 7
James Ward-Prowse (for Hojbjerg 82 mins) – 6
