Southampton respond as Wolves submit bid for Adam Armstrong

Wolves are set to remain active in the transfer window in the final days as Rob Edwards looks to make his first signings as manager of the Old Gold side.

While Wolves are essentially relegated from the Premier League, there is now a chance to prepare a squad for the Championship.

Before the transfer window closes on Monday, Wolves are looking to bring in England international and Marseille star Angel Gomes, who could move to Molineux on loan.

Now, Edwards is looking to add Southampton’s Adam Armstrong to the squad.

Southampton reject bid from Wolves for Adam Armstrong

According to Alex Crook via X on 1 February, Wolves are looking to bring in Armstrong before the transfer window closes.

However, Wolves have already received a setback in their pursuit of Armstrong, with the Saints rejecting a bid from the Black Country outfit overnight for the 28-year-old striker.

This comes after Crystal Palace submitted a £43million package deal for Jorgen Strand Larsen, with the Norwegian striker expected to leave the club, ending weeks of speculation on his future.

The former West Brom loanee has been a regular at St Mary’s Stadium this season, and has netted 11 times and picked up four assists in 29 Championship outings.

However, with Southampton attempting to pull themselves back into the playoff race, they are clearly not keen on losing their star striker.

Could Armstrong be a success at Wolves?

Despite still having a mathematical chance of survival this season, Wolves will now be mainly looking to build a team to bounce straight back into the top-flight next season.

Armstrong could play a big part in this if he were to join the Old Gold side before the end of the transfer window.

When Southampton last got promoted, he netted 24 goals in 52 games in all competitions, including the winner in the playoff final against Leeds United.

While his record in the Premier League is less impressive, only scoring two in 20 top-flight games last season, for Wolves’ upcoming short-term goals, he would likely be a solid buy.

However, the task for Edwards is now get the deal over the line, with time running out to secure Armstrong before the window shuts.
