Sources: Angers submit offer for Southampton star Yan Valery

Angers have submitted an offer for Southampton defender Yan Valery, sources have told Football Insider.

The right-back, 23, is down the pecking order at St Mary’s and the Saints are open to letting him move on.

Angers have now made a formal move to bring the Frenchman back to his homeland in a permanent deal.
Valery is in the final year of his contract at Southampton.

Valery joined the Saints’ academy from French side Rennes in 2015.

He signed his first professional contract two years later and made his senior debut in 2018.

Valery enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2018-19, turning out 24 times in total.

But he has failed to make more than 12 appearances in any subsequent campaign.

The defender, who can also play at right midfielder, has two outings under his belt in 2022-23.

He was hooked at half time in the Saints’ 4-1 opening day defeat to Tottenham, and he played the full 90 minutes in the 3-0 win over League One side Cambridge United in the League Cup.

Kyle Walker-Peters is currently the Saints’ first-choice right-back with Tino Livramento out of action with an ACL injury.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are 8th in the league after their surprise 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Tuesday (30 August).

Angers meanwhile are 19th in Ligue 1 and are yet to win in their opening five matches.

They finished 14th in the French top flight in 2021-22.
