Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez looks on from the touchline

Newcastle United fans might not have any Premier League action to watch this weekend but that will not stop there being a truly intriguing clash involving their side.

With an enforced break from action as a result of Tottenham’s FA Cup exploits, the Magpies have jetted south to Spain, escaping the bitter winter of the United Kingdom and making the most of their time off with a warm weather training camp.

Not only will the players be put through their paces by Rafael Benitez and his coaching staff in the manager’s homeland, but their four day getaway will conclude with a unique match against Belgian top flight club Royal Antwerp on Sunday.

The Magpies are set to take part in a clash made up of three 45 minute periods, similar to ice hockey, in a bid to give every travelling member of the squad the opportunity to partake and keep their fitness levels up for the end of season stretch.

However, while primarily a fitness exercise, there are some members of the Newcastle squad who will have to view the friendly showdown as an audition for their futures, for both the first team squad until the end of the campaign, and even possibly beyond.
