SPFL wrong to deny Celtic shot at ultimate title party – even Rangers would jump at chance
COMMENT
The SPFL are usually under-fire from Celtic and Rangers fans for something, and the latest controversy will no doubt annoy the fans once more.
The SPFL announced on their official website that they are delaying the announcement of the post-split Scottish Premiership fixtures until the start of next week, even though the authorities already know which teams have qualified for the top six.
Some Hoops fans think they are delaying the announcement so they can avoid making the first match after the split the final Old Firm derby of the season, which could be the game that sees the Hoops clinch the title.
The SPFL are wrong to deny the fans of the ultimate spectacle of wining the league title against your biggest rivals.
It would be a massive occasion for both sides, as no doubt Rangers would be extremely fired up to stop the Bhoys from clinching the league title.
The SPFL are obviously worried about a repeat of the scenes from 1999, when the Gers won the title at Parkhead and there was a lot of trouble.
But the game has moved on since then, and the SPFL broadcasters at Sky would love the chance of an Old Firm title decider. The viewing figures would be through the roof.
The SPFL are guilty of being parochial here, they should look at the bigger picture and allow the Old Firm title decider to take place.
