SPFL ‘letting fans down’ after Rangers confirmed news – pundit
Frank McAvennie has slammed the SPFL for not giving Celtic and Rangers a greater allocation for the League Cup final.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said the fans have been “let down” by the organisers of the cup.
On 8 February, the Gers confirmed that they have sold out their allocation for the Viaplay Cup final match between the Glasgow rivals.
The clubs have received a 50/50 split of the allocation for the game which will be played at Hampden on 26 February.
When the sides have faced each other in league games in recent years, the away support has been confined to less than 1,000.
McAvennie is pleased that there will be so many fans at the game, but insisted there should be more.
“That is what makes it the game that it is,” he told Football Insider.
“Players love it, playing at Hampden. It is the Cup Final, Celtic and Rangers are only getting 16,000 tickets. What is that all about?

“That is only 32,000, what has happened to the other 20,000? It is ridiculous. It is really letting the fans down, they are screaming for tickets. The proper fans should be going to games like that. It is just stupid.”
Celtic secured their place in the final with a 2-0 win over Kilmarnock last month and the Light Blues joined them with a place in the final thanks to a 2-1 win over Aberdeen.
