Spotted: Michael Beale in the stands as Rangers close in on Kieran Dowell – sources
Rangers are lining up a pre-contract offer for Norwich City Kieran Dowell, sources have told Football Insider.
Michael Beale was in the crowd for Norwich’s 1-1 draw with QPR last Wednesday (19 April) to run the rule over the attacking midfielder.
The 25-year-old is out of contract this summer and available on a free transfer after joining the Canaries in 2020 from Everton.
Dowell spent nearly six years on Merseyside, the majority of which were spent on loan at lower league sides include Sheffield United, Derby County, Wigan Athletic and Nottingham Forest.
During his time at Goodison Park, Dowell made just five appearances for the first team.
This season, the midfielder has made 25 appearances for Norwich and has scored five goals and provided three assists in those outings.
Dowell has played alongside recent Rangers signing Todd Cantwell but has not featured for David Wagner’s side since February when he picked up a knee ligament injury.
The England youth international has also been capped 17 times for the under-21s side.
Michael Beale is targeting several new arrivals this summer to strengthen a squad that could be set to lose seven first team players.
As quoted by footballscotland (19 April), the Light Blues boss believes his side are only “four or five signings away” from being able to fully challenge Glasgow rivals.

Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield, Steven Davis, Filip Helander and Allan McGregor will all be able to leave Ibrox for free this summer when their contracts expire.
Midfielder Malik Tillman’s loan deal from Bayern Munich also expires at the end of the season but the Light Blues have an option to buy on the 20-year-old.
In other news, Rangers takeover could be worth £112m as paperwork filed.
