Spurs Exclusive: Kevin Phillips shares what FA must do to Eric Dier in strong verdict
Kevin Phillips has come out in full support of Eric Dier after the Tottenham player clashed with a fan after the FA Cup loss to Norwich.
The former Sunderland and West Brom striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, hoped the 26-year-old who not face retrospective action over the incident.
The FA are investigating the fan altercation after videos on social media showed Dier climbing over seats to confront a member of the crowd.
Moments earlier Spurs had been dumped out of the FA Cup 3-2 on penalties by Norwich after the score finished 1-1 after 120 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
When asked whether he empathised with the England international, Phillips told Football Insider: “If I am honest – fair play to him.
“I understand what Mourinho said about a player having responsibility but it is his own flesh and blood, a relative that he feels is getting abused and no one is doing anything about it. It should be dealt with. Eric felt nothing was being done so he has stuck up for his family.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Mourinho implied the reaction from the versatile defender was due to a member of the player’s family receiving insults from a fan at full-time.
Dier is expected to be available as the Lilywhites travel to Burnley in the Premier League’s late kick-off on Saturday.
